We talk about the “mood” of the wedding a lot here at Threshold, but it really can affect the way that you and your guests feel! While there are many big and obvious ways to set the tone for how the day is going to go, one of the more subtle ways is in your colour palette selection.

This is usually the part where we lose the grooms of the audience. Bye, then.

There are a few things to consider when deciding on a colour palette for the wedding.

Just because your favourite colours are magenta, topaz blue and Asda green, you are not obligated to have them all as your wedding colours. Similarly, just because you are hate pink with all of your heart, might, mind and strength, it does not mean that a few pink hues here and there will make you betray who you truly are. Basically be open minded. You can commit to a colour as much or as little as you would like to! There are no rules stating that your bridesmaids must wear the colours of your palette. It could be as subtle as the ribbon on your invitation.

Think seasonally. If you have no real love for any colours in particular, allow the natural tones around you to inspire the palette that you go for. Summer weddings can usually bring light pastel colours and neutral tones. Whilst autumnal weddings allow for deeper shades to create warmth, and cosiness.

If you decide to let the colour palette be a really big part of the apparel for the wedding day, spare a thought for the people you will be dressing! If your ideal colour will not work with your bridesmaid, consider a different tone, or creating an ombre effect of colours for your bridesmaids. There are many different ways to manipulate a palette to make it work for you.

Soft, feminine tones can elude to a more traditional day, whereas bright, bold colours can create the fun atmosphere that represents you as a couple!

There are many websites and tools out there that can be really useful in helping you to select a great colour palette, so dive into all of the options out there and enjoy it!
